PRESS RELEASE: East Palo Alto Woman arrested for robbery and assault with a deadly weapon.
LOCATION: 250 Walnut Street, Redwood City
DATE/TIME: June 6, 2024, 12:09 p.m.
On June 6, 2024, at approximately 12:09 p.m., Redwood City Police Officers responded on a report of a robbery and assault, which had just occurred in the parking lot of the shopping center at 250 Walnut Street. The victim, an Uber driver, reported that he had brought a passenger to this location and upon arrival, she brandished a knife and demanded his cell phone. Once she had his phone, she then demanded money to return it. A brief struggle ensued and the suspect cut the victim’s arm before fleeing on foot with his money. An independent witness to the robbery provided a suspect description. Investigating officers canvassed the area and located excellent video surveillance footage of the suspect in a nearby business. They also determined she had stolen merchandise from two nearby businesses before fleeing the area entirely.
While the robbery investigation was on going, RCPD Communications received a call from a woman at 400 County Center in downtown Redwood City stating she had been involved in a disturbance and needed the police. Responding officers saw she matched the description of the robbery suspect and detained her. The victim positively identified her as the suspect.
The suspect, East Palo Alto resident Shante Barden, was booked into the Maguire Correctional Facility on charges of robbery, assault with a deadly weapon, burglary, and committing a felony while out on bail.
