Subject: MDOT Improvement Plan for M-53 in Northern Macomb County

Dear Residents,

I am pleased to inform you that the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) is set to begin a significant improvement plan for M-53 (Van Dyke Freeway) in northern Macomb County. This is the second major project launched on M-53 this year, aimed at enhancing our road infrastructure and ensuring safer, smoother travel for all.

Starting Monday, MDOT will commence a $5.3 million road project on M-53 from 27 Mile to 34 Mile roads. Motorists should be aware that there will be single-lane closures during the duration of the roadwork, so please plan your travels accordingly to avoid delays.

The planned improvements include:

• Asphalt and concrete pavement repairs on the lanes and shoulders from 27 Mile to 33 Mile.
• Concrete pavement repairs to the ramps between M-53 and Van Dyke Avenue.
• Installation of sidewalk and curb ramps at M-53 and 32 Mile Road.

Additionally, later this summer, M-53 will be closed between 33 Mile and 34 Mile roads for approximately one week. We appreciate your patience and understanding during this closure. The entire project is expected to be completed by late August.

Simultaneously, MDOT is also working on a separate $16 million project on M-53 between 18 Mile and M-59. This project involves resurfacing the roadway, performing concrete and guardrail repairs, repairing 10 bridges, and resurfacing the 23 Mile ramps to M-53.

These improvements are crucial for maintaining and enhancing our transportation infrastructure. We apologize for any inconvenience these projects may cause and thank you for your cooperation and patience as MDOT works to improve our roads.
