WEST SPRINGFIELD TO HOST BLOCK PARTY
ON THE TOWN COMMON ON JUNE 22 AND 23
West Springfield, MA: In further celebration of the 250th anniversary of its incorporation, the Town of West Springfield will host a block party on the Town Common on Saturday, June 22 and Sunday, June 23. The Town Common is located in downtown West Springfield, between Park Avenue and Park Street. The block party will begin at noon each day and will feature live entertainment, food trucks, craft vendors, events for children and a cornhole tournament. The celebrations will conclude at 7:00 p.m. both nights.
On Saturday, Story Tellers will perform from noon to 3:00 p.m., followed by Drop of a Hat from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. On Sunday, General Gist will perform from noon to 3:00 p.m. and Chalk Dust will close out the event from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Both days of the block party event will feature over ten different food trucks with a variety of refreshments for purchase. In addition, on Saturday, there will be over 60 vendors with various crafts, items, and snacks for purchase. Sunday will feature a cornhole tournament, hosted by West Springfield Park & Rec; visit their webpage townofwestspringfield.org/250cornhole to register in advance.
Both days of the block party will feature several free programs for children, including the following: On Saturday: Wildlife on Wheels presented by the West Springfield Public Library and funded by the Kathleen and Walter Miller Trust (12:00 p.m. — 3:00 p.m.); Happy Face Painter (12:00 p.m. — 7:00 p.m.); Library Summer Reading Table (12:00 p.m. — 7:00 p.m.). On Sunday: Vinny Lovegrove’s Bubble Show presented by the West Springfield Public Library and funded by the Kathleen and Walter Miller Trust (12:00 p.m. — 3:00 p.m.); Stand Out Truck with PBS programming and free books (while supplies last) funded through the Friends of the West Springfield Public Library (12:00 p.m. — 4:00 p.m.); Happy Face Painter (12:00 p.m. — 7:00 p.m.); Library Summer Reading Table (12:00 p.m. — 7:00 p.m.) and Dazzle Day Balloon Twisting (12:00 p.m. — 4:00 p.m.).
Attendees are encouraged to utilize municipal parking at the Town Hall, Senior Center and Coburn Elementary School. The Town anticipates that traffic may increase in the area and advises the public to plan travel accordingly.
