A message from JCP&L: Routine Helicopter Patrols Begin Approximately 6/12
Please be advised, on/around June 12, 2024, weather permitting, Chesapeake Bay Helicopters will be returning to the JCP&L region to begin performing fall routine patrols on all JCP&L transmission lines, 115kV – 500kV. These inspections are expected to take approximately one (1) week to complete, however, any storm or outage-related patrols could prolong completion. The helicopter to be used is as follows:
· Blue Bell 206 Jet Ranger w/tail registration number N719CB – see photo
A routine visual patrol is a general inspection of the structures, conductors, and all associated hardware on the transmission line(s) where the onboard inspector is looking for any outstanding issues or immediate threats to the reliability of the transmission line(s). The helicopter may also be seen hovering and/or circling to get a closer look at any problems that may be found during these patrols.
It should be noted this contractor has been authorized to patrol the transmission circuits in their entirety (i.e. "breaker-to-breaker"), so patrols on certain lines may therefore extend into the neighboring regions. The flight crew will provide information on their daily location to any local airports when in their airspace.
