Arrest made in fatal crash at 45/Soncy this past weekend.

Traffic Investigation Detectives were able to obtain 3 warrants for the suspect in this case, Dawson Pemberton, 09/13/2004, age 19. The charges are 2 counts of Manslaughter and 1 count of Aggravated Assault with deadly weapon. Officers arrested Pemberton and he was booked into the Randall County jail for these charges. The APD Traffic Investigation Unit is still investigating this case.

On June 7, 2024 at approximately 8:57pm, Officers were dispatched to a major traffic crash at 45th and Soncy. Upon their arrival they discovered a black 2001 Chevy Tahoe had been northbound on Soncy at a high rate of speed. The Tahoe was driven by Dawson Pemberton, male, 19. Pemberton disregarded a red light and struck a white 2008 Cadillac CTS. The Cadillac was traveling westbound on 45th. It was driven by Edwin Macias, male, 18 of Dimmitt, Tx. The Chevy struck the Cadillac causing it to spin. Aaron Cervantez, male, 20 of Dimmitt, was ejected from the Cadillac. He died at the scene of injuries received in the collision. Macias also died at the scene of injures he received from the crash. A passenger in the Cadillac, male, 18 of Dimmitt was taken to a local area hospital with life threatening injuries. Pemberton was also taken to a local area hospital with life threatening injuries. After the Tahoe struck the CTS the CTS struck 2 more vehicles. None of those drivers were injured. Nine total vehicles received damages from this crash. Justice of the Peace Kyle Balke has ordered autopsies on the deceased victims. Speed and alcohol are contributing factors in this collision.
An APD vehicle that was en route to this crash was involved in a collision with a pedestrian that entered onto Soncy Rd. Department of Public Safety Troopers were requested to respond to that collision. They arrived and investigated the motor vehicle/ pedestrian collision.
