Repair Work to Begin on Niles Canyon Road (SR-84) Between Old Canyon Road and Main Street in Sunol Week of June 17, 2024
Caltrans has announced that Niles Canyon Road (State Route 84) will be fully closed at night from 8:00 p.m. through 5:00 a.m. starting the week of June 17th to repair storm damage from February when a portion of the highway collapsed into Alameda Creek. One-way traffic control has been in effect since then and will continue during the daytime until the construction is complete.
Work will be performed in the evening between 8 p.m. and 5 a.m. Monday through Friday. Full closures will be in effect while work is being performed. Motorists should detour via Interstate 680 during these hours.
The roadway will reopen with one-way traffic control every morning.
Work is scheduled to complete by the end of the year. Every effort will be made to open both lanes of Niles Canyon Road (SR-84) as soon as November if possible. Unforeseeable events such as rain will affect the schedule.
One-way traffic control has been in effect on Niles Canyon Road since February when the ground under the road deteriorated, causing a portion of the highway to collapse.
