Mayor Bhalla announces recreational access for Hoboken residents in partnership with Stevens Institute of Technology
Mayor Ravi S. Bhalla and Stevens Institute of Technology President Nariman Farvardin today announced a partnership that grants Hoboken residents access to Stevens' tennis courts this summer and continued year-round access to their indoor swimming pool.
“We are thrilled to once again offer our residents expanded recreational opportunities through this partnership with Stevens Institute of Technology,” said Mayor Bhalla. “Access to these top-notch facilities will allow our residents to stay active throughout the summer months and beyond. Thank you to our partners at Stevens for working with us to make sure our residents have access to these great facilities.”

Tennis Courts Access
Until August 30, Hoboken residents can enjoy the use of two tennis courts, the Battista Family Tennis Courts, located between the UCC towers. The courts are available free of charge from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., Monday to Friday and on Saturdays from 9am-5pm. The courts are closed on Sundays. Please note that the courts will not be accessible during Stevens tennis team practices, matches, and occasional maintenance.
Swimming Pool Access
Year-round access to the indoor swimming pool at the Schaefer Athletic Center is also available. Pool hours are weekdays from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. but please note the hours are subject to change. A variety of membership plans are offered, including daily, weekly, and monthly options. Family swim memberships and discounted rates for senior citizens are also available. Registration Process
Hoboken residents interested in using these facilities must follow a two-step registration process:
- Annually verify residency with Hoboken Recreation at Hoboken Registration Link.
- Residents who have a DuckCard ID will still have to re-apply for verification of residency, but will not need to resubmit photo for DuckCard ID.
- Register with Stevens by creating a DSE account at https://stevens.dserec.com/online/memberships
- and complete all required forms, including waivers. Residents must also email a headshot to [email protected]. Following this, they will receive instructions to pick up their DuckCard ID.
Facility Rules and Regulations:
- Tennis courts and pool use are on a first-come, first-served basis.
- Users must adhere to all posted rules, and failure to comply may result in loss of privileges.
- Residents must have a valid ID to enter the facility and use the courts. If residents are unable to present a valid ID, they will not be permitted to use the courts and pool.
- Nonresident guests are not permitted to use the facilities.
- Minors must be supervised by an adult at all times.
- To use the Pool, residents must first reserve a lane using their DSE account.
- Parking is not open to residents.
