AMARILLO POLICE DEPARTMENT
MEDIA/PUBLIC RELEASE

DATE: June 16, 2024
TIME:  2:40AM
CASE NUMBER:
INCIDENT TYPE: “After hours” club investigation
OFFICER SUBMITTING RELEASE: Lt. Chappell-Special Operations; Sgt.Burr-PIO

DETAILS: On June 16, 2024, Amarillo Police investigated an “after hours” club located at 2206 Amarillo Boulevard East. We had received numerous citizen complaints about this being a local hangout for persons engaged in drug sales, weapons possession and illicit alcohol sales including alcohol being served to minors as young as 12. While preparing for the investigation, we contacted the City of Amarillo Fire Marshal’s Office to request information about the occupancy status of 2206 Amarillo Boulevard East. The Fire Marshall’s office confirmed with Building Safety that there was no record of a Certificate of Occupancy for that location. We informed the Fire Marshall’s office the complaint regarding large crowds at the business after the legal bars closed. They advised the person operating the business would be in violation of the City Fire Code 6310 Fire-No Certificate of Occupancy 503 2000 IFC 102.3.  APD officers from the Neighborhood Police Unit, Proactive Criminal Enforcement Unit assisted by the Amarillo Fire Marshall’s office entered the premises at 2206 Amarillo Boulevard East at approximately 2:40AM. There were about 25 people inside. Over 100 people were turned away during the time the officers were on scene. The owner was cited, and the business was closed, and placards were hung informing the owner and the public the business was in violation and would be closed until the issue was resolved.
