INCIDENT: Fatal Traffic Crash
LOCATION: State Highway 18 / Central Road, Apple Valley, CA
DRIVER 1: Markell Lister, 28-year-old male, Resident of Apple Valley (Deceased)
VEHICLE 1: Orange Ford Fiesta
DRIVER 2: Konstanti Markrygiannis, 27-year-old male, Resident of Apple Valley
VEHICLE 2: Black Audi SQ5
SUMMARY: On Saturday, June 15, 2024, at approximately 7:02 p.m., deputies from the Apple Valley Sheriff’s Station, rescue personnel from the Apple Valley Fire Department, and American Medical Response responded to a two-vehicle traffic crash that occurred on State Highway 18 and Central Road, in the town of Apple Valley.
Through investigation, deputies determined an orange Ford Fiesta, driven by Markell Lister, traveled northbound on Central Road, approaching State Highway 18. A black Audi SQ5, driven by Konstanti Markrygiannis, traveled eastbound on State Highway 18 in the number one lane, approaching Central Road. The Audi SQ5 broadsided the Ford Fiesta in the intersection.
The driver of the Ford Fiesta suffered major injuries and was transported to a local hospital by ambulance. The driver later succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased at the hospital. The driver of the Audi SQ5 also suffered injuries and was transported to a local hospital by ambulance for medical treatment.
An investigator from the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department Major Accident Investigation Team (M.A.I.T) arrived and is conducting an investigation. State Highway 18, westbound lanes, were closed between the intersections of Pauhaska Road and Central Road for approximately 45 minutes while deputies processed the scene for evidence and interviewed witnesses.
