June is Gun Violence Awareness Month
June is Gun Violence Awareness Month, and we all have a part in creating a community that is free from Gun Violence.
In 2022, over 800 people in Los Angeles County died from firearms, including homicides, suicides, and accidental shootings. Throughout June and beyond, we encourage you to learn more about the far-reaching impacts of gun violence and how you can play a role in prevention.
The Culver City Police Department is committed to mitigating gun violence through the reduction of violent crime and providing education on firearm safety. From crime prevention education to gun buyback events and providing gun safety locks, the department consistently ensures community members are equipped with information and resources to keep themselves and their households safe.
We want to remind our community that the Culver City Police Department offers free gun safety locks to the public, no questions asked, year-round. Taking simple steps to store firearms safely can prevent tragedy. The hallmarks of safe gun storage are locking the gun, storing the gun unloaded, and storing the gun separately from ammunition. A gun lock, also known as a firearm lock, gun cable lock, or a gun safety lock, is a device designed to prevent unauthorized use of a gun. Gun locks and gun safety educational materials are available free of charge at the Culver City Police Department located at 4040 Duquesne Avenue.
