Detective Billie Brown with the McDowell County Sheriff’s Office charged 20-year-old Brittney Marie Hannum with felonious Assault on a Detention Employee Inflicting Serious Injury and Assault on a Government Employee. Hannum was issued a $15,000 secured bond.
On June 7th, deputies responded to the McDowell County Detention Center for a report of an assault of an officer by an inmate. The investigation showed that while detention officers were booking Hannum into the jail, she refused to comply with commands, bit one officer and kicked an additional officer.
