Press Release: June 16, 2024 Officer Involved Shooting (OIS) – Update #1

On June 16, 2024, at approximately 9:00 a.m., Fremont Police Officers responded to a carjacking in the parking lot of a store on the 44000 block of Osgood Road. The suspect was armed with a knife and left the scene prior to officers’ arrival. A short time later, an officer located a male subject nearby who matched the description of the carjacking suspect. The suspect was still armed with a knife and walking on Automall Parkway just west of Osgood Rd. The officer directed the suspect to stop. The suspect brandished the knife at the officer and advanced toward him.  Despite numerous commands to stop, and the officer repositioning to create space and distance, the suspect continued to advance toward the officer while holding the knife. The officer discharged his service weapon, striking the suspect once. Officers on scene rendered medical aid to the suspect, who was subsequently transported to an area hospital. The suspect is currently in stable condition.  No officers were injured in this event.
