Flood Watch has been issued for Hamlin County through Saturday. Persistent rain of 1-3" with some higher amounts may cause flooding.

A persistent area of rain and thunderstorms will bring the potential for 1 to 3 inches of rain this afternoon through Friday night. As thunderstorms become more prevalent tonight through Friday, localized heavier accumulations are possible.

* WHAT...Flooding caused by excessive rainfall is possible.

* WHERE...Portions of central and northeast South Dakota, including the following counties, in central South Dakota, Buffalo, Hand, Hyde and Lyman. In northeast South Dakota, Clark, Codington, Deuel, Hamlin and Spink.

* WHEN...Through Saturday morning.

* IMPACTS...Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations. Flooding may occur in poor drainage and urban areas.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - 1 to 3 inches of rain has already fallen across portions of the watch area in the last 24 hours. Another 1 to 3 inches with locally higher amounts is possible through Friday night. - http://www.weather.gov/safety/flood

Instructions:

Never cross flooded roadways, turn around. Use extreme caution when traveling at night as flash flooding is hard to see at night.
