Escondido Woman Uses Text-to-911 to Get Help After Suffering Injuries at Mt. Baldy

VICTIM(S): Adult Female, 49-years-old, Resident of Escondido
SUMMARY: On Wednesday, June 19, 2024, a lone female hiker went rappelling at the top of San Antonio Falls in Mt Baldy. She was able to make one successful rappel, but during a second attempt, her foot became stuck between two rocks, and she sustained a broken leg.
The female hiker utilized text-to-911 to alert emergency personnel who resonded to the location. Sheriff's Aviation sent a rescue helicopter and the Sheriff's West Valley Search and Rescue team was placed on stand-by. The helicopter located her, hoisted her to safety, and transported her to the San Antonio Dam to an awaiting ambulance. She was transported to a local hospital for emergency care. No emergency personnel were injured during the rescue.
