Wilmington Police have arrested a man on gun and drug charges following an investigation.
Beginning in June, members of the Safe Streets Task Force have been conducting an investigation into 23-year-old Robert Chavis for illegal firearm possession. On June 13, Chavis was taken into custody without incident. Subsequently, police executed a search warrant in the 1200 block of Elm Street, and recovered a .380 caliber handgun, a 9mm handgun, an unknown caliber revolver, 2.5 grams of crack cocaine, .357 grams of heroin, and 3 Alprazolam pills.
Chavis has been charged with the following offenses:
- Possession of a Firearm or Ammunition by a Person Prohibited – Four Counts
- Possession of a Controlled Substance – Three Counts
He was arraigned in the New Castle County Court of Common Pleas and was committed to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution on $40,600 cash-only bail.
