Needles Deputies Respond to Brush Fire that Started in California and Spread into Arizona

INCIDENT: Multiple Agencies From California and Arizona Working a Fire
LOCATION: 900 Block of Bush Street, Needles, CA
SUMMARY:
On June 22, 2024, at 1:15 p.m., deputies from the Needles Station responded to the 900 block of Bush Street in Needles for a report of a fire. When deputies arrived at the location, they found a brushfire that had engulfed a residence. The fire spread north of the location along the Colorado river.
The San Bernardino County Fire Department and multiple other fire departments responded. Mandatory evacuations were done at Fenders Resort on Needles Highway in Needles. The fire eventually spread across the Colorado River and into Arizona and fire units from California and Arizona are fighting the blaze.
Sheriff Air Rescue responded with a water dropping helicopter to assist fire units. According to the San Bernardino County Fire Department, the fire has currently consumed about 70 acres. Needles Highway from Interstate 40 to Old National Trails Highway is closed. Evacuees were directed to the Needles senior center.
