Deputies Pursue Fleeing Suspect and Find a Loaded Handgun in His Possession

SUSPECT(S): Leonardo Briones Ortiz, 37 year old male resident of Muscoy

SUMMARY: On Saturday, June 22, 2024, at approximately 8:54 p.m, Central Sheriff's Station Deputies J. Causey and B. Chavez attempted to stop an off-road motorcycle for a registration violation near North Macy Street and Mallory Street in San Bernardino.
Deputies activated their emergency lighting equipment and audible siren to conduct a traffic stop on the motorcycle. The driver drove without due regard for public safety and lead deputies on an approximate two-mile pursuit. The pursuit terminated at the intersection of North Pepper Avenue and East Winchester Drive, where the motorcycle rider turned too wide and disabled the bike along a curb line. The rider, Leonardo Briones Ortiz, was taken into custody without incident.
During a search of Ortiz's backpack, deputies located a 9mm Glock brand-style pistol with no serial number. The firearm was loaded and contained a high-capacity magazine.
Ortiz was arrested and booked into the Central Detention Center Jail with a bail amount of $100,000.00 for failure to yield, possession of an unserialized handgun, and possession of a high-capacity magazine.
