Santa Maria Police Investigate Shooting - First Homicide of 2024
SMPD Case #: 24-0008984
On Saturday, June 22, 2024, at approximately 10:13 PM, officers from the Santa Maria Police Department were dispatched to the 400 block of N. Benwiley Street following a report of a shooting.
Upon arrival, officers discovered that a shooting had taken place outside a residence where a large party was being held. Two adult males were found to have sustained gunshot wounds. Both victims were transported to Marian Regional Medical Center for medical treatment.
Tragically, despite the best efforts of medical personnel, one of the victims succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased at the hospital. The second victim received treatment for non-life-threatening injuries and is expected to make a full recovery.
The Santa Maria Police Department's Detective Bureau and Crime Lab responded to the scene, and the Detective Bureau has now taken charge of this active and ongoing investigation. As of this time, no arrests have been made in connection with the shooting.
Due to the sensitive nature of the investigation, limited information is being released. However, the Santa Maria Police Department urges anyone with information related to this case to come forward.
