A message from Maple Shade Police Chief Christopher J. Fletcher
As the summer season unfolds, we've observed a troubling trend of large-scale disturbances at community events throughout New Jersey. These incidents share some common characteristics: they are often organized via social media, involve unsupervised and sometimes masked juveniles or young adults, and result in violent behavior directed at each other, police, and property. Recently, the Maple Shade Police Department has provided mutual aid to assist other local departments in managing these disturbances.
On Saturday, June 29th, Maple Shade Township will host its annual fireworks display—an event our residents eagerly anticipate each year. Our top priority is ensuring the safety of our residents and visitors, as well as protecting property. To achieve this, there will be an increased police presence at this year’s event. This enhanced security will include officers from other townships and county agencies. Additionally, the area will be monitored using police drones and all available camera systems to ensure safety. Lastly, we will work with our local, county, and state intelligence agencies to identify threats or concerns before the event.
Please be aware that all school-owned and public properties will be designated no-smoking areas (including tobacco and marijuana) and no alcohol zones. We will enforce a zero-tolerance policy for any disorderly or disruptive behavior. Officers are instructed to proactively identify and address any issues, which may include arrest or issuing summonses on the scene.
While at the event, if you observe any individuals engaging in inappropriate or illegal activities, please report it to the nearest police officer immediately.
Thank you in advance for your cooperation and support in maintaining a safe and enjoyable event.
