Witnesses on scene told officers that they witnessed a female being thrown from a vehicle. When the witnesses intervened, a man in the vehicle fired rounds at the witness. A witness then returned fire and the male fled the scene in the vehicle. Through investigations, the male was ultimately identified as Kurt David Cobain Gaede, 1/13/1999.
On June 24, 2024, members of the Amarillo Police Department Special Operations Task Force learned that Gaede was wanted on an outstanding felony warrant out of Randall County for Burglary. Officers gave chase and Gaede displayed a firearm. This action resulted in a task force officer discharging his firearm striking Gaede.
