PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT:
Following the declaration of a flood emergency this morning, the City of North Mankato constructed an earth wall levee as a precautionary measure at the Lookout Drive and Lee Boulevard Intersection. The levee is now complete and stands at a height of 34.6 ft. Currently the river level is at 28.92 ft and predicted to crest at 29.6 ft on Tuesday, June 25th.
City staff are continuing to monitor the river level and the status of the Rapidan Dam. If the Rapidan Dam does fail, engineers on-site predict an increase in the river levels of 6 inches to 2 ft, depending on location downstream. A City staff member is on-site and providing updates.
No evacuations or preparations from residents are needed at this time, the City will provide further updates as information becomes available. If further action is needed from residents, the City will share through official news releases, our Facebook page, website (www.northmankato.com) and through our emergency notification system, Nixle.
The Lookout Dr. and Lee Blvd. intersection remains closed until further notice. Please see the attached map to view closed roads and detour routes. Please avoid travel in this area and between upper and lower North Mankato unless necessary. The suggested detour route is northbound Hwy 169 to Hwy 14. Additional roads will be closed as needed.
