SUMMARY: On Sunday, June 23, 2024, at approximately 7:00 p.m., deputies from the Victorville Police Department and emergency personnel from the Victorville Fire Department responded to a single vehicle crash in the area of the Mojave Riverbed, located north of Phantom East and Shay Road, in Victorville.
During the investigation, investigators learned a black Can-Am with four occupants traveled northeast down a dirt road just east of Shay Road. The Can-Am approached an embarkment and attempted to brake but was unsuccessful. The Can-AM drove off the dirt roadway, went down a large embarkment, and rolled.
As a result of the crash, a 19-year-old female passenger sustained major injuries and was transported to a trauma center. A second passenger, Cynthia Lynn Lorntzen, suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Investigators determined the driver, Francisco Enrique Gonzalez, was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the crash. Gonzalez has a prior conviction from 2017 for California Vehicle Code 23152(B)- Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol with a Blood Alcohol Content of 0.08 Percent or Higher. Francisco Enrique Gonzalez was arrested and booked at High Desert Detention Center in Adelanto, for P.C. 187(A)- Murder.
