The Newark Police Department is releasing information about recent crime and police activity that has occurred within our community. 
 
MONDAY, JUNE 17, 2024: 
 
7:45 AM Officer Williams investigated a vehicle theft near Blackburn & Abbington Drives.
 
8:52 AM Officer Williams investigated a window smash vehicle burglary near Blackburn & Chapman Drives. The reported loss was a pair of sunglasses and a battery starter.
 
9:30 AM Community Services Officer (CSO) Lau responded to the San Francisco County Jail for an active warrant. A 39-year-old female from Newark was booked into Santa Rita Jail.
 
12:05 PM Officer Taylor investigated a vehicle theft on Timber Street & Blackberry Way.
 
4:50 PM CSO Lau investigated a window smash vehicle burglary near Windermere Drive & Bosworth Court. There was no reported loss.
 
7:21 PM Officer Swadener investigated a vehicle theft in the area of Dragonfly Street & Spadefoot Avenue.
 
10:39 PM Officer Lor recovered a stolen vehicle near Birch Street & Smith Avenue.
 
10:47 PM Officer McCuin investigated a vehicle theft on Marshlands Road.
 
TUESDAY, JUNE 18, 2024: 
 
1:51 PM Officer McCuin recovered a stolen vehicle near Birch Street & Campanula Court.
 
4:54 AM Officer Lor investigated a vehicle theft in the area of Larkspur Street & Daphne Court.
 
5:06 AM Officer McCuin investigated a catalytic converter theft at Cherry Street & Auburn Avenue.
 
7:56 AM Officer S. Torres investigated a vehicle burglary at Cedar Boulevard & Mowry Avenue. The loss included a backpack with personal items, and a Bluetooth speaker.
 
9:58 AM Officer Jackman investigated a vehicle theft near Cedar Boulevard & Hydrangea Way.
 
11:33 AM Officer S. Torres investigated a report of a vehicle theft near Jarvis Avenue & Hayley Street.
 
10:06 PM Officer McCuin investigated a vehicle theft near Graham Avenue & Sycamore Street.
 
10:12 PM Officer C. Torres responded to a possible drunk driver near Civic Terrace & Newark Boulevard. A 36-year-old female was arrested for DUI and booked into Santa Rita Jail.
 
4:24 PM Officer S. Torres investigated a report of vandalism near Newark Boulevard & Jarvis Avenue. A 28-year-old male was arrested and transported to Santa Rita Jail for booking.
 
WEDNESDAY, JUNE 19, 2024: 
 
5:33 AM Officers investigated a report of a suspicious person near Robertson Avenue & Iris Court. A 39-year-old male was arrested for mail theft, burglary tools, narcotics, and resisting arrest. He was transported to Santa Rita Jail for booking.
 
6:34 AM Officers were dispatched to Newpark Mall Road & South Magazine Road for a vehicle burglary in progress. A 23-year-old male and a juvenile were arrested for vehicle burglary, aggravated assault with a firearm, contributing to the delinquency of a minor, possession of a stolen vehicle, and possession of a concealed and unmarked firearm.
 
8:54 AM Officer Stevenson investigated a vehicle burglary near Mowry Avenue & Cherry Street. The vehicle’s lock was forced open. Reported loss included multiple license plates.
 
8:55 AM Officer S. Torres investigated multiple catalytic converter thefts and vehicle burglaries that occurred near Mistflower Avenue & Birch Street.
 
12:33 PM Officer Lara arrived at Sunrose Avenue & Birch Street to assist ALCO Fire with a subject. Upon contact, a 22-year-old male was arrested for a warrant and transported to Santa Rita Jail for booking.
 
5:22 PM CSO Mora was dispatched to Cedar Boulevard & North Magazine Road on the report of a vehicle burglary. The rear window was shattered, loss is currently undetermined.
 
THURSDAY, JUNE 20, 2024: 
 
1:24 AM Officer Cervantes was dispatched to Jarvis Avenue & Newark Boulevard for a disturbance. A 43-year-old female was arrested for an outstanding warrant and released on scene with a citation.
 
4:28 AM Officers located an individual with an active warrant at Enterprise Drive & Filbert Street. A 40-year-old male was transported into Santa Rita Jail for booking.
 
2:45 PM Officer Lara investigated a catalytic converter theft on Mowry Avenue & Cherry Street.
 
4:55 PM Officer Dale responded to Jarvis Avenue & Newark Boulevard for a disturbance. A 40-year-old male was arrested for theft and racially motivated threats. He was transported to Santa Rita Jail for booking.
 
7:35 PM Officers arrested a 32-year-old male near the 6700 block of Jarvis Avenue for possession of narcotics. He was released on scene with a citation.
 
FRIDAY, JUNE 21, 2024: 
 
4:27 AM Officers responded to Jarvis Avenue & Newark Boulevard on the report of a person with a gun. The investigation is currently ongoing. Refer to Press Release for details: https://local.nixle.com/alert/11115231/
 
6:03 AM Officer Orozco investigated a vehicle theft near Saint Mark Avenue & Cedar Boulevard.
 
7:55 AM Officer Stevenson was dispatched to Cherry Street & Mowry Avenue to investigate the report of a vehicle theft.
 
12:53 PM Officer Lara investigated a vehicle burglary near Dupont Avenue & Cedar Boulevard. The rear window was broken with no reported loss.
 
3:29 PM Officer Frentescu responded to the area of Birch Street & Peppertree Court for a catalytic converter theft.
 
SATURDAY, JUNE 22, 2024: 
 
2:51 PM Officer Lara was dispatched to Sycamore Street & Beutke Drive to investigate a vehicle burglary. Entry occurred by window smash with no loss reported.
 
4:50 PM Officer Stevenson conducted a traffic stop at Newark Boulevard & Dairy Avenue. A 29-year-old male was arrested for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, resisting arrest, along with an active warrant. He was transported to Santa Rita Jail for booking.
 
8:38 PM Officer Orozco was dispatched to Mowry Avenue & Cedar Boulevard on the report of suspicious persons in the area. A 37-year-old male was arrested for possession of narcotics and released on scene with a citation.
 
 
SUNDAY, JUNE 23, 2024: 
 
12:53 AM Officer Herrera conducted a traffic stop near Cedar Boulevard & Thornton Avenue and arrested a 57-year-old male for driving under the influence. He was transported to Santa Rita Jail for booking.
 
7:51 AM Vehicle Abatement Officer Heckman recovered a stolen vehicle on the 37400 Block of Sycamore Street.
 
3:33 PM Officer Jackman investigated a vehicle theft near Cedar & Stevenson Boulevards.
 
4:42 PM Officer Taylor investigated a vehicle theft near Smith Avenue & Escalonia Drive.
 
4:57 PM Officer Stevenson was dispatched to a vehicle burglary near Cedar Boulevard & Mirabeau Drive.  The loss of tools was reported.
 
6:47 PM Officer Orozco was dispatched to a vehicle burglary reported near Crestmont Avenue & Burning Tree Drive. The sunroof of the vehicle was shattered with no reported loss.
 
7:50 PM Officer Orozco responded to Harbor Light Road and Central Avenue on the report of a suspicious person. A probation search was initiated on a 39-year-old male. He was arrested for narcotics and transported to Santa Rita Jail for booking.
 
 
**The following traffic collision, which is currently under investigation by the Newark Traffic Unit was not included in a previous Crime Blotter**
 
On Wednesday May 29, 2024, at 6:15PM officers responded to a two-vehicle traffic collision on Jarvis Avenue near Fircrest Street.  Unfortunately, a 20-year-old male driver of Newark succumbed to injuries sustained during the collision. His passenger, a 21-year-old female was transported to a local trauma center. The occupants of the second vehicle were uninjured.
