Police Seek Help Identifying Burglary Suspect

Newark Public Safety Director Fritz G. Fragé requests the public’s help in identifying the below-pictured male suspect in connection with two burglaries that occurred on Monday, June 24, 2024, and Monday, June 17, 2024.

At approximately 2:30 a.m. on June 24th, Police responded to a residential building in the 600 block of Clinton Avenue on a call of a burglary. Responding officers observed surveillance footage of a Black male suspect who pried open a side door and entered the building’s maintenance room. The suspect stole a 100-piece Husky Tool Kit, a Ryobi drill, and cleaning supplies. The stolen items are valued at approximately $900.00.

On June 17th, at approximately 1:56 a.m., Police responded to a church in the 100 block of Osborne Terrace on a call of a burglary alarm. Responding officers observed a lower-level window that appeared to be forced open. Another window, on the 2nd floor, also appeared forced open. Surveillance footage showed a male suspect forcibly opening the lower-level window, and then exiting through the 2nd-floor window. Before exiting the building, the suspect threw a case of drinks and a large package of paper towels, stolen from the church, from the 2nd-floor window. He fled, heading eastbound on Hawthorne Avenue.

Detectives describe the suspect as a Black male in his late 40s with a salt and pepper-colored goatee. He was last seen wearing a white T-shirt, silver sweatpants with a black stripe, a baseball cap with a logo of the Golden State Warriors on the front, and red sneakers.

Director Fragé urges anyone with information about this suspect to call the Police Division’s 24-hour Crime Stopper tip line at 1-877-NWK-TIPS (1-877-695-8477).
