KCSO Incident 1900 Block of East Planz Road 
On June 27th, 2024, at approximately 1659 hours, deputies from the Kern County Sheriff’s Office (KCSO) responded to a residence in the 1900 block of East Planz Road for an arrest warrant service.
During the service of the arrest warrant, Jose Mendez III (25) of Bakersfield barricaded himself inside of the residence with Jennifer Walton (40) of Bakersfield.
Walton later exited the residence uninjured and was placed under arrest for obstruction. Walton was booked into the KCSO Lerdo jail.
Mendez was later transported to Kern Medical suffering from an apparent self-inflected gunshot wound.
There were no reported injuries to civilians or deputies and all residences were allowed back home once the scene was safe.
The KCSO Coroner’s Office has assumed this investigation.
