SUMMARY: On Saturday, June 29, 2024, at approximately 4:02 p.m., a deputy from the Apple Valley Police Department was traveling westbound on Bear Valley Road, with emergency lights and sirens activated, responding to a priority call for service. The driver of a Toyota Corolla was traveling eastbound on Bear Valley Road, west of Kiowa Road. The driver of the Toyota attempted to make a left turn into a parking lot and collided with the patrol unit.
The male driver of the Toyota was pronounced deceased at the scene. His name is being withheld pending positive identification and next of kin notification. The deputy suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to a local hospital.
Bear Valley Road will be closed to traffic between Kiowa Road and Snapping Turtle for several hours while deputies conduct the investigation.
