Narrative: | |||||
At approximately 6:50 AM on Sunday morning, a deputy from the Thousand Oaks Police Department was involved in an officer-involved shooting (OIS) incident on Avenida de los Arboles, west of Erbes Road, in Thousand Oaks. The incident began when deputies made contact with a 37-year-old man who was observed holding a knife. During the contact, the man advanced towards one of the deputies in a threatening manner with another device that appeared to be a bow and arrow. Despite receiving several verbal commands to drop the weapon, the suspect did not comply and continued to aggressively approach the deputy. As a result, an officer-involved shooting occurred. The deputies rendered aid to the suspect and called for medical personnel. The suspect was transported to a local hospital, where he is currently in critical but stable condition. A knife and another item that looked similar to a bow was recovered at the scene. No deputies were injured during this incident. The Sheriff’s Major Crimes Unit is investigating this incident in conjunction with the District Attorney’s Office. The deputy involved in this OIS has been placed on administrative leave. This is standard protocol for the Sheriff’s Office whenever a deputy is involved in an OIS. The Thousand Oaks Police Department prioritizes transparency and public safety. Further details of the incident are currently under investigation. If you have any information about the incident, please contact Detective Gerardo Cruz at (805) 384-4726. In equivalence with California AB748 body worn footage will be released within 45 days |
