Meridian Man Arrested After Hit-And-Run

MERIDIAN- Meridian Police identified and arrested twenty-six (26) year old Michael GREEN, Saturday night who was involved in a DUI, hit-and-run collision.

At approximately 11:37p.m. on June 29, 2024, officers responded to an injury crash involving a Black Honda motorcycle and a Ford F-150, driven by GREEN, at the intersection of E. Fairview Ave and Venture Street. The motorcycle was traveling eastbound on E. Fairview Ave behind GREEN’s truck. As the motorcyclist was in the process of changing lanes, Green made a sudden, un-signaled lane change, hitting the motorcyclist. The collision caused the motorcyclist to eject into the westbound lanes of Fairview where GREEN failed to stop and continued driving eastbound on Fairview at a high rate of speed away from the collision. After the initial crash a citizen got out of their vehicle to help the motorcyclist and an additional vehicle struck the motorcyclist and the citizen in the westbound lanes of travel.

Garden City Police officers located GREEN and conducted a traffic stop at W. Summerwind Dr. and W. Shadybrook in Boise. Meridian officer’s investigation determined GREEN was impaired and he was arrested for one count felony Driving Under the Influence (aggravated) and one count felony leaving the scene of an accident resulting in an injury.

The driver of the motorcycle and the Good Samaritan were transported to a local hospital with life threatening injuries. The driver of the Ford F-150 was not injured.

The Meridian Police Department would like to remind drivers to plan before consuming alcohol to help keep roadways safe. Prior to drinking, follow these tips to protect yourself and others:
• Plan your safe ride home before you drink choose a non-drinking friend as a designated driver.
• If someone you know has been drinking, do not let that person get behind the wheel. Take their keys and help them arrange a sober ride home.
• If you drink, do not drive for any reason. Call a taxi, a ride share service, or a sober friend.
• If you’re hosting a party where alcohol will be served, make sure all guests leave with a sober driver.

Driving under the influence affects the entire community and is unsafe for all drivers on the road. If you see an impaired driver, contact local law enforcement. Your actions could help save someone’s life.

Meridian Police Department would like to thank the citizens who stopped to help the injured motorcyclist and the injured Good Samaritan, the Garden City Police, Meridian Fire Department, and Ada County Paramedics for their assistance.
