#LASD Traffic Investigators are Investigating On-Duty Emergency Vehicle Crash #Lancaster
Traffic investigators from the Lancaster Sheriff’s Station were promptly informed of a traffic crash involving an American Medical Response (AMR) Ambulance transporting a patient to Antelope Valley Medical Center without their emergency lights and siren active. The crash occurred at the intersection of Avenue J and Division Street.
Preliminary investigation indicates a Dodge Ram pickup truck towing a boat was traveling southbound on Division Street while the AMR Ambulance was traveling northbound on Division Street. The AMR Ambulance was in the left turn lane, intending to make a westbound turn onto Avenue J, as the Dodge Ram was in the number one lane. Both vehicles entered the intersection during a solid green traffic signal. The AMR Ambulance yielded to traffic and did not initiate its westbound turn until the signal turned yellow. While turning, the Dodge Ram broadsided the AMR Ambulance. The AMR paramedics and their patients were transported to Antelope Valley Medical Center for medical treatment regarding complaints of pain. The driver of the Dodge Ram refused to be transported.
The cause of this crash is still being investigated. Speed and alcohol/drugs do not appear to be factors in this crash. Anyone with information regarding this collision is asked to contact the Traffic Investigators at Lancaster Sheriff’s Station by calling 661-948-8466.
