On June 30, 2024, at approximately 3:20 a.m., Fremont Police Officers were dispatched to the area of Christy Street and Stewart Avenue to a vehicle collision involving a pedestrian. Fremont officers arrived on scene and discovered a person deceased. The vehicles involved in the collision fled the scene prior to police arrival.
The Fremont Police Department Traffic Investigations Unit responded and assumed the collision investigation. Based on the preliminary investigation, it appears the female pedestrian was pushing a shopping cart and walking in the northbound lanes of Christy Street when she was struck by a vehicle traveling north on Christy Street. As the pedestrian was lying in the roadway, it appeared a second vehicle then struck her. The deceased female has been identified as a 48-year-old resident of Fremont. The Alameda County Coroner's Office responded to recover the decedent, who has been identified as a member of our unhoused community.
This investigation is active and ongoing. Fremont Police Department Traffic Investigators are pursuing investigative leads to identify the vehicles and drivers involved in this collision.
This is Fremont’s fourth fatal traffic collision in 2024.
