Hazardous Fire Weather Conditions are Continuing
The National Weather Service has extended the Red Flag Fire Weather Warning through Friday night. This means that critical fire weather conditions are forecast to continue, including strong, gusty off shore winds, low humidity values, high temperatures and very dry vegetation. These conditions can cause new fire starts to grow rapidly, causing hazardous conditions and potentially extreme fire behavior.
Last night, a fire was started in Tilden Park by someone using fireworks. Fortunately, firefighters were able to quickly respond and put it out. However, there are a number of other fires burning throughout California as a result of these weather conditions. Working together, we can prevent these fires from starting or burning in our area.
Residents should take precautions and consider the following:
- DO NOT USE ANY FIREWORKS!
- Avoid mowing or using equipment around dry grass;
- Do not park vehicles on or drive vehicles through dry grass;
- Avoid having any outside fires;
- Report suspicious activity; and
- Be aware of and report vertical columns of smoke in the area.
