Wilmington Police have arrested a man in connection to a 2023 armed robbery following an investigation.
On August 13, 2023, at approximately 8:40 a.m., members of the Uniformed Services Division responded to the 400 block of North Harrison Street, in reference to an armed robbery. On August 20, 2023, at approximately 7:05 a.m., members of the Uniformed Services Division responded to the 300 block of North Franklin Street, in reference to an assault with a weapon. These cases were assigned to Detective Justin Wilkers of the Criminal Investigations Division.
On June 23, members of the Uniformed Services Division took 38-year-old Robert Truitt into custody without incident on an unrelated matter. Through the course of his investigation, Detective Wilkers identified Truitt as a suspect, and obtained warrants for his arrest.
Truitt has been charged with the following offenses:
- Robbery (First Degree)
- Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony – Two Counts
- Possession of a Firearm by a Person Prohibited – Two Counts
- Carrying a Concealed Deadly Weapon – Two Counts
- Assault (Second Degree)
- Reckless Endangering (First Degree)
- Wearing a Disguise During the Commission of a Felony
On July 3, Truitt was arraigned in Justice of the Peace Court 20 and was committed to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution on $77,000 secured bail.
