Tropical Storm Beryl Update - June 6, 2024 - 6:00pm

Good Evening:

We are closely monitoring the approach of Tropical Storm Beryl. The 4:00pm report from the National Weather Service indicates that Beryl is currently located approximately 385 miles southeast of Corpus Christi, with wind speeds of up to 60 mph.  The storm is moving northwest and expected to make landfall in the vicinity of Matagorda Bay as a hurricane on Monday, July 8.  Beryl is forecasted to bring heavy rain, damaging winds and dangerous storm surge to our area, most like beginning sometime Sunday evening.  As a result, Mayor Shiflet has issued a local Declaration of Disaster effective today.

Brazoria County is currently under a Tropical Storm Warning and a Hurricane Watch. We urge all residents to finalize their storm preparations as soon as possible. This includes removing and securing any items from your yard that could potentially be blown around by the storm.

Please note that all non-essential operations within the City of Clute will be closed on Monday, July 8.

Importantly, there will be NO TRASH PICKUP on Monday, July 8.  Please do not place trash out to be picked up.
