Red Flag Warning until 07:00PM Sunday
...RED FLAG WARNING IN EFFECT TODAY BETWEEN 1 PM AND 7 PM FOR THE NORTHWEST PLATEAU DUE TO VERY LOW HUMIDITY, STRONG WINDS AND AN UNSTABLE ATMOSPHERE... .Gusty northwest winds will bring in drier and hotter conditions to northwestern New Mexico today. In addition, very low humidity has been observed over the past few days, allowing fine fuels to cure and dry across the Northwest Plateau. High haines values combined with the stronger winds and low humidity will result in critical fire weather conditions. Despite rainfall last week, rapid fire spread will be possible in receptive fuels. Winds will diminish Sunday evening to alleviate the critical fire weather threat. The National Weather Service in Albuquerque has issued a Red Flag Warning...which is in effect from 1 PM this afternoon to 7 PM MDT this evening. The Fire Weather Watch is no longer in effect.
* AREA AND TIMING...Thus includes the Northwest Plateau (Zone 101) this afternoon and early evening.
* 20 FOOT WINDS...Northwest at 15 to 25 mph with gusts to 35 mph.
* RELATIVE HUMIDITY...Minimum values between 5 and 8 percent.
* IMPACTS...Any fires that develop will likely spread rapidly. Outdoor burning is not recommended.
* AFFECTED AREAS: NORTHWEST PLATEAU
