Excessive Heat Monday-Wednesday, Cooling Centers Open
Our week starts with excessive heat here in coastal NJ, with the heat advisory expected to continue until the end of the day Wednesday, 7/10. Temperatures will continue to rise and max heat index values in the mid to upper 90's today through Wednesday. With these dangerously high temperatures, extra care must be taken to avoid heat-related injury. Beat the heat with these simple tips and check out the Cooling Center hours below:
• If you'll be outdoors (and especially those playing in this weekend's soccer tournament) take frequent breaks from the sun and HYDRATE!
• Check on neighbors and family members, especially the elderly.
• Limit your time in direct sunlight and avoid strenuous outdoor activity.
• Wear sunscreen and sunglasses.
• Drink plenty of water.
• Never leave your kids or pets in the car unattended.
• Seek medical attention if you observe any signs of heat stroke including feeling faint, nausea or vomiting, rapid or weak pulse, and any other abnormal conditions.
