Robertson Road Fire Death Investigation
Modesto, California –
On Thursday, July 4, 2024, at approximately 4:45 p.m. Burbank-Paradise Fire Department and Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a report of a person on fire inside a residence in 1900 block of Robertson Road in Modesto. When the fire department arrived on scene, they located a female victim with major burns over 80% of her body. The victim was transported to a Modesto hospital by ambulance and later flown to a burn center in Sacramento. The victim later died from her injuries on Saturday, July 6. The victim has been identified as 52-year-old Andrea Benning of Modesto.
Detectives from the Sheriff’s Office Major Crimes Unit and Investigators from the Stanislaus Regional Fire Investigation Unit responded to the scene and conducted an investigation to determine what had occurred. The fire was isolated to the area around where the victim was located inside the residence. Several people were contacted at the scene and interviewed regarding the incident.
The investigation is still on-going. Detectives are still investigating to determine if this incident was an accidental incident or an intentional act.
