The Newark Police Department is releasing information about recent crime and police activity that has occurred within our community. 
 
MONDAY, JULY 1, 2024: 
 
11:48 AM Officers investigated multiple vehicle thefts occurring on Bonnie Street & Wilma Avenue, Jarvis Avenue & Gateway Boulevard, and Newpark Mall Road. A stolen vehicle was recovered during investigation.
 
 
TUESDAY, JULY 2, 2024: 

1:25 AM Officers arrived at Darvon Street & Tenaya Avenue for the call of a disturbance. A 41-year-old male was arrested for battery and booked into Santa Rita Jail.
 
5:52 AM Officer Williams investigated a vehicle burglary near Balentine Drive & Mowry School Road. Loss of industrial equipment was reported.
 
6:35 AM Officer S. Torres investigated a vehicle theft near Joaquin Murieta Avenue & Cherry Street. The vehicle was recovered in the area of Graham Avenue & Magnolia Street.
 
2:38 PM Officer Williams recovered a stolen vehicle near Mowry Avenue & Cedar Boulevard. A 38-year-old male was arrested and booked into Santa Rita Jail for possession of a stolen vehicle.
 
 
WEDNESDAY, JULY 3, 2024: 
 
7:58 AM Officer Pacheco recovered a stolen vehicle on the dead end of Hickory Street.
 
9:09 AM Community Services Officer (CSO) Lau investigated the following incidents:

• Residential burglary on the 38400 block of Birch Street
• Theft of vehicle tires near Central Avenue & Willow Street
• Commercial burglary near Mowry Avenue & Alpenrose Court

 
4:20 PM Officer Stevenson was dispatched to Jarvis Avenue & Newark Boulevard on the report of shoplifting. A 29-year-old male was arrested and released with a citation for theft.
 
10:49 PM Officer Dale investigated an attempted vehicle theft near Mayhews Landing Road & Sycamore Street. The rear window was shattered, and steering wheel components were damaged.
 
THURSDAY, JULY 4, 2024: 
 
6:45 AM Officers investigated a number of vehicle thefts over the course of several hours. There was broken glass from vehicle windows and damaged ignition columns near the following residences:

• Ash Street & Wells Avenue
• Filbert Street & Wells Avenue
• Newark Boulevard & Lafayette Avenue
• Oak Street & Wells Avenue

 
1:13 PM Officer Stevenson investigated a commercial burglary that occurred near Mowry Avenue & Alpenrose Court.
 
4:41 PM Officer Lara investigated a vehicle burglary near Cedar Boulevard & Mirabeau Drive. Loss included power tools and accessories. 
 
7:00 PM Over the course of six hours, Officers handled 109 incidents involving the suspected use of illegal fireworks and issued many social host ordinance citations over the course of the evening.  
 
FRIDAY, JULY 5, 2024: 
 
1:15 AM Officer Norvell investigated a vehicle collision near Mayhews Landing Road & Sycamore Street. A 29-year-old male was cited for driving with a suspended license and no insurance.
 
12:00 PM Officer Quinonez investigated a stolen vehicle report near Dairy & Thornton Avenues. The vehicle was later recovered by Officer Williams near Central Avenue & Sycamore Street.
 
12:58 PM Officer Jackman responded to a trespassing call on Central Avenue & Birch Street. A 43-year-old female was arrested for possession of narcotics and released on scene with a citation.
 
7:27 PM Officer Medina recovered a stolen vehicle on Ruschin Drive near McLaughlin Avenue.
 
SATURDAY, JULY 6, 2024: 
 
3:18 AM Officer Swadener investigated a suspicious person report near Central Avenue & Willow Street. A 40-year-old male was arrested for possession of narcotics and violating probation terms. He was subsequently transported to Santa Rita Jail for booking.
 
10:57 AM Officer Stevenson investigated a court order violation near Port Sailwood Drive & Darvon Street. A 22-year-old female was arrested and booked into Santa Rita Jail for narcotics and violating a court order.
 
1:04 PM Officer Frentescu investigated a vehicle burglary at Thornton Avenue & Cedar Boulevard. The vehicle window was shattered with no loss reported.
 
6:51 PM Officers recovered multiple stolen vehicles on Cherry Street and Edgewater Drive.  
 
9:49 PM Officer Soto performed a traffic stop on Biddle Avenue & Ruschin Drive. A 25-year-old male was arrested for driving under the influence and booked into Santa Rita jail.
 
10:48 PM CSO Vuong transported a 48-year-old male to Santa Rita Jail for a bench warrant.
 
SUNDAY, JULY 7, 2024: 
 
8:05 AM Officer Kim investigated a vehicle theft that occurred near Newark Boulevard & Thornton Avenue. A 32-year-old male was located with the vehicle near Sycamore Street & Dairy Avenue. He was arrested and transported to Santa Rita Jail for possession of a stolen vehicle and violating the terms of his probation.
 
10:00 AM Officers responded to the 7300 block of Thornton Avenue on the report of a fight in progress. A 42-year-old male was arrested for violating the terms of his probation, aggravated assault, and vandalism. He was booked into Santa Rita Jail.
 
11:09 AM Officer Kim recovered a stolen vehicle near Normandy & Mirabeau Drives.
 
3:34 PM Officer Orozco investigated a vehicle theft at Cherry Street & Clark Avenue.
 
11:33 PM CSO Vuong responded to a vehicle theft at Cedar Boulevard & Mahogany Place. The vehicle door was left unlocked, and the reported loss included vehicle registration paperwork and miscellaneous currency.
