Homicide Suspects in Custody

INCIDENT:  Homicide Suspects in Custody

Ontario, CA – On July 7th, 2024, at 5:21 PM, Ontario Police Officers were dispatched to a possible shooting in the alleyway of the 1100 block of East Nocta Street. As officers arrived on scene, they observed a vehicle attempting to leave the area. They quickly stopped the vehicle and determined the two males occupants, later identified as Guillermo Gonzalez, a 24-year-old resident of Ontario, and Miguel Alvarez-Rangel, a 30-year-old resident of Montclair, had been involved in the incident.  During the contact it was learned Alvarez-Rangel had been injured and was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Gonzalez was uninjured but placed under arrest for an unrelated warrant.

Simultaneously, additional responding officers located two shooting victims in the alley.  Officers provided emergency medical treatment to one unresponsive male, but he succumbed to his injuries and was declared deceased at the scene. The other adult male victim was transported to a local hospital with critical injuries and has since been stabilized.

Through the course of the investigation, detectives determined the incident stemmed from a verbal argument that escalated into a shooting. Alvarez-Rangel was identified as the primary suspect and was promptly arrested upon his release from the hospital. He was charged with murder in the first degree and assault with a firearm.  In addition, Gonzalez was also determined to have an active role in the incident and was charged with murder in the first degree and accessory to murder.  They were both transported and booked at the West Valley Detention Center.

A firearm was recovered at the scene.
