In the late afternoon of July 8th, citizens called the Simi Valley Police Department to report shots fired in the area of Helm St and Corto St.  Based on the initial investigation it appears that the suspect and victims knew each other and got into a dispute.

During the dispute, the suspect brandished a handgun and shot a tire on one of the victim's vehicle.  The suspect also used the handgun as a blunt force weapon to assault another victim.

The suspect and the victim of the assault both left the area before officers arrived on scene.  Neither subject has been positively identified at this time.

The investigation is continuing, however, it is known that the incident was not gang related and there is no apparent threat to the general public.
