Juveniles Arrested in Connection with Armed Robberies and Assaults
The Oakland Police Department (OPD) has taken three juveniles into custody following a series of armed robberies and assaults that occurred over the past three days. The arrests were made safely just before 2:45 p.m. in the 3200 block of Lakeshore Avenue on July 8, 2024.
• July 6, 2024 (just before 12:30 p.m.): The first incident occurred in the area of Fruitvale Avenue and MacArthur Boulevard. The group approached a victim who had just withdrawn money from an ATM. The juveniles robbed the victim as they were walking back to their vehicle.
• July 6, 2024 (two hours later): The same group was involved in a shooting and robbery in the 1700 block of 27th Avenue. The victim was working as a vendor when one of the armed juveniles approached and demanded the victim’s belongings. The victim complied but later attempted to disarm one of them. A struggle ensued, resulting in the victim being shot.
• July 8, 2024 (just after 11:45 a.m.): The third incident occurred in the 500 block of 24th Street. The group approached a victim from behind, pushing them to the ground and stealing their belongings.
• July 8, 2024 (30 minutes later): The group was involved in another armed robbery, this time in the 3400 block of International Boulevard. The victim was approached by multiple individuals who took their belongings. During this incident, one of the juveniles struck the victim with a firearm.
Officers working undercover, along with those assigned to the Patrol and Special Resources Section (SRS) East and West, were instrumental in arresting the group and recovering a loaded firearm.
The cases will be presented to the Alameda County District Attorney’s Office for charging.
Investigators are looking into the possibility that these three juveniles may be connected to a larger group involved in additional robberies throughout Oakland and are working on making additional arrests in these cases.
