Deputies Determine Suspicious Box Located in Parking Lot to Contain Only Trash

INCIDENT: POSSIBLE EXPLOSIVE DEVICE
LOCATION: Escondido Road/ Ranchero Road, Oak Hills
SUMMARY: On Tuesday, July 9, 2024, at 4:50 p.m., deputies responded to a commercial complex at the corner of Escondido Road and Ranchero Road, in Oak Hills. According to the reporting party, they saw a suspicious box in the parking lot that looked like a possible explosive device.
When deputies arrived, they found the box in the parking lot. The box was wrapped in foil with an American flag. It had a thermometer affixed to it, and wires coming out of it. Deputies immediately closed intersections and evacuated all surrounding businesses.
San Bernardino County Sheriiff's Arson/Bomb Detail responded to assist. The box was found to contain only trash. We would like to thank business owners and patrons for their cooperation during the evacuation.
