Detectives Investigate Stabbing Death at Hesperia Home

LOCATION: 16500 block of Sequoia Street, Hesperia
SUSPECT(S): Daniel Cook, 62-year-old Male Resident of Hesperia
VICTIM(S): Ruben Castillo, 59-year-old Male Resident of Apple Valley
SUMMARY: On Monday, July 8, 2024, at approximately 9:20 p.m., deputies from the Hesperia Police Department responded to a reported stabbing at a home in the 15600 block of Sequoia Street. When deputies arrived, they saw Daniel Cook performing Cardio Pulminary Resuscitation (CPR) on Ruben Castillo, who had sustained stab wounds. Castillo was transported to a local hospital where he was later pronounced deceased.
Detectives with the Sheriff’s Specialized Investigations Division, Homicide Detail, responded to the location and assumed the investigation. During the investigation, it was discovered Castillo arrived at the home where his ex-girlfriend lived and forced open a window. Daniel Cook was inside the residence and became involved in a physical altercation with Castillo. Castillo was stabbed during the altercation. Involved parties claimed Castillo’s actions led to a subsequent defense of life and property.
Investigators advised the San Bernardino County District Attorney’s Office of the incident, and a full report will be forwarded to their office for review.
