SUMMARY: On Tuesday, July 9, 2024, deputies and detectives from the Highland Sheriff's Station investigated a fraud case in which the suspects, Larry Ferrier and Fredrick Gutierrez, used the victim's bank card at a retail store in the city of Highland. Ferrier and Gutierrez were seen leaving the retail store in a Silver Jeep and both men were on felony probation.
Information was gathered on their whereabouts, leading investigators to a hotel in San Bernardino. Gutierrez and Juan Perez were seen entering the same Jeep used during the commission of the original crime. Investigators attempted to detain Gutierrez and Perez before they could leave the location, but they quickly entered the Jeep, reversed at a high rate of speed, almost hitting investigators, and collided with two patrol vehicles before driving away.
A vehicle pursuit ensued, and Gutierrez and Perez traveled west on the I-10 Freeway east, at Waterman Avenue. Due to safety concerns, the pursuit was terminated. Due to Gutierrez's erratic driving, he collided head-on with a vehicle on the I-10 Freeway. Bystanders observed Gutierrez and Perez flee from the scene of the traffic collision and provided information to deputies about the direction in which they fled. Gutierrez and Perez were arrested nearby. Investigators located a loaded firearm and suspected narcotics in the vehicle. Investigators served a search warrant at the hotel, where they located Larry Ferrier and additional evidence related to the original fraud investigation.
Ferrier, Gutierrez, and Perez were booked into custody at Central Detention Center.
