Fall recreation registration to launch next week
The City of Hoboken’s Recreation Division today announced registration for fall programs including instructional field hockey, instructional volleyball, instructional tennis, flag football, tackle football, and soccer.
Registration for most programs will open the week of July 15, on https://hoboken.recdesk.com/Community/Program.
“Our recreation offerings continue to improve, thanks to the diligent efforts of our Recreation Division,” said Mayor Ravi S. Bhalla. “We have heard feedback from the community loud and clear, and we are striving for our recreation department to service as many children as possible. I look forward to seeing everyone out on our ballfields this fall!”
Instructional Field Hockey
Open for participants in third through eighth grades, the program is designed to introduce young athletes to field hockey. Led by experienced coaches, children will learn fundamental skills, teamwork, and sportsmanship through engaging drills, exercises, and gameplay. The program emphasizes participation and enjoyment, allowing children of all skill levels to participate.
There will be two sessions organized by age, 90 minutes each, and held on Sundays between 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. starting on Sept. 15.
The resident registration fee is $45. Those who qualify for free and reduced lunch may participate for free.
Registration will open on Tuesday, July 16, at 12 p.m. Space is limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis. Registration will close when the program reaches capacity or on Aug. 19, whichever comes first. Any additional individuals interested in participating after registration closes will be placed on a waitlist.
Instructional Volleyball League
The program, for youth in fifth through eighth grades, will be led by experienced coaches who will foster a supportive environment for athletes of all levels. Youth will learn volleyball fundamentals, teamwork, and sportsmanship.
Games will be played on Tuesdays and Thursdays at the Multi-Service Center, 124 Grand St, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. starting on Oct. 8.
The registration fee is $45 for residents, $80 for non-residents, and free for participants who qualify for free and reduced lunch.
Registration will open on Tuesday, July 16, at 12 p.m. Space is limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis. Registration will close when the program reaches capacity or on Aug. 19, whichever comes first. Any additional individuals interested in participating after registration closes will be placed on a waitlist.
Instructional Tennis
Instructional tennis is open to children between the ages of 6 and 14 years old. The program aims to help beginners improve their basic skills and includes fun and interactive games to improve motor skills and hand and eye coordination based on age group.
Sessions will be for one hour each and available on various dates and times at the Columbus Park tennis courts (located near 10th & Grand) starting on Sept. 20.
Space is limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis. Participants may only sign up for one session. Multiple registrations for one student will be canceled.
The resident registration fee is $60. Those who qualify for free and reduced lunch may participate for free.

Flag Football
The program is designed for athletes in second through eighth grade and offers a safe and inclusive environment where children can learn and play the game without contact. With an emphasis on skill development, teamwork, and sportsmanship, children will learn fundamental techniques such as passing, catching, and flag-pulling. Athletes will have the option to join a girls or boys division.
Games will be played on weekdays between 4 p.m. and 8 p.m. and on weekends between 8 a.m. and 1 p.m. all at ResilienCity Field. All schedules are subject to change. Please note, no practices will be held for this program.
The registration fee is $45 for residents, $80 for non-residents, and free for participants who qualify for free and reduced lunch.

Registration will close when the program reaches capacity or on Aug. 30, whichever comes first. Any additional individuals interested in participating after registration closes will be placed on a waitlist.
The Recreation Division is recruiting parent volunteers to assist with games in the girl’s division for second to fifth graders and the boy's division for second to sixth graders. Tackle Football
The tackle football program for Hoboken residents between the ages of 6 and 14. The program is led by volunteer coaches and is designed to foster teamwork, skill development, and a love for the game. Participants will engage in training sessions that cultivate their passion for competitive tackle football.
Practice will be held up to five times a week with travel games on Fridays, Saturdays, or Sundays starting with preseason practice on July 22.
The registration fee is $25 for residents and free for those who qualify for free and reduced lunch. All players must live in Hoboken to participate.

Recreation Soccer
Young athletes in kindergarten through eighth grade can participate in the City’s recreation soccer program.
K-1st Grade
This program is designed for kindergarten through first graders, guided by volunteers, who will introduce the sport of soccer to children in a fun, small-sided, 4v4 game-based format.
Sessions will be held on Saturdays from Sept. 14 through Oct. 26. Participants should select the preferred session time slot for the season. There is a limit of one session per child for this program. Schedules are subject to change and makeup sessions are not guaranteed but may be announced via rec desk if available.
The registration fee is $55 for residents, $100 for non-residents and $0 for participants who receive free and reduced lunch.

Any additional individuals interested in participating after registration closes will be placed on a waitlist. Please note waitlisted players are not guaranteed to be placed onto a team.
2nd - 8th Grade
The second to fifth grade sessions are for young athletes enrolled in the perspective grade at the start of the 2024-2025 school year. This is a co-ed program, guided by adult volunteers, which will introduce the sport of soccer to children in a fun, game-style format.
Sixth to eighth grade athletes will have the option to enroll for the Girls or Boys divisions.
Practices will be held one day per week from Sept. 10 through Oct. 25. Games will be held on Saturdays from Sept. 14 to Nov. 9. Practice and game locations can be found on RecDesk.
Teams and game schedules will be announced before the start of the season and they are subject to change. Makeup sessions are not guaranteed but may be announced via rec desk if available.
The registration fee is $55 for residents, $100 for non-residents and $0 for participants who receive free and reduced lunch. Please note, travel players are not eligible to participate in recreation soccer if they are currently part of a travel team.
