Several Suspects Arrested for Theft While Deputies in Apple Valley Conduct Proactive Patrol

DATE/TIME: Tuesday, July 9, 2024  

INCIDENT: PC 459 – Commercial Burglary
PC 182(a)(2) - Conspiracy
PC 487(a) – Grand Theft

LOCATION: Tractor Supply, 20340 Bear Valley Road, Apple Valley

SUSPECT(S): William Joseph Dean, 43-year-old male of Apple Valley
Richard Raymond Maldonado, 32-year-old male of Apple Valley
Matthew Michael Verax, 30-year-old male of Apple Valley
Debra Lynn Oconn, 58-year-old female of Apple Valley
Joshua Isaiah Harris, 32-year-old male of Apple Valley

SUMMARY: 

On Tuesday, July 9, 2024, at approximately 3:05 am, deputies from Apple Valley Police Department conducted proactive patrol of Tractor Supply due to recent reports of thefts. Deputies saw a red Chevrolet Tahoe leaving the business and conducted a traffic stop at Bear Valley Road and Deep Creek Road.

Deputies identified four individuals in the vehicle, along with dog food and wood pellets. The dog food and wood pellets were confirmed to have been stolen from Tractor Supply and all four subjects were arrested in connection with the burglary.

William Dean was booked in at High Desert Detention Center on charges of PC 459, Burglary, PC 182(a)(2), Conspiracy and a no-bail warrant for PC 3455, Post Release Community Supervision. Dean remains in custody on these charges. 

Richard Maldonado was booked in at High Desert Detention Center on charges of PC 459, Burglary and PC 182(a)(2), Conspiracy. Maldonado subsequently posted bail and was released.

Matthew Verax was booked in at High Desert Detention Center on charges of PC 459, Burglary, PC 182(a)(2), Conspiracy and a no-bail warrant for probation violation. Verax remains in custody on these charges.

Debra Oconn was not booked at the time of the incident.

Later the same day, at approximately 11:18 pm, Deputy W. Ray located a vehicle linked to a theft which occurred on Wednesday, July 3, 2024. This investigation was in relation to a generator being stolen from Tractor Supply. Deputy Ray had identified the suspect and recognized the vehicle when he saw it. A traffic stop was made on the vehicle and the driver, Joshua Harris, was arrested for the theft of the generator.

Harris was booked in at High Desert Detention Center on charges of PC 487(a), Grand Theft and additional felony warrants out of both San Bernardino and Riverside Counties. Due to the warrants, Harris is being held without bail.
