Police Offering Reward in Illegal Fireworks Case that Caused Damage to Apartment Complex and Displaced Residents
HOLLISTER, CALIFORNIA – July 13, 2024 – Hollister Police Department is asking the Hollister community to help identify person(s) responsible for a fireworks explosion causing major damage to an apartment complex over the Fourth of July weekend.
On 07/04/2024, approximately 2213 hours, Hollister Police were dispatched to the one thousand block of Del Rio Court for a large explosion outside an apartment complex. Upon arrival officers discovered a severely damaged concrete staircase to the second story of an apartment complex. Residents in the apartment had to be assisted from the building due to the structure damage.
It was determined people had been setting off illegal fireworks and one of them hit the building. The impact of the fireworks was strong enough to shatter all the windows and break the door frames. Due to the severe structure damage to the apartment Code Enforcement Officers and the building department were forced to red tag the building. The residents were displaced from their homes. Luckily there were no injuries as a result of the explosion as many people were not home during the incident.
If anyone has any information regarding the incident, the Police Department is asking for assistance in identifying those individuals responsible. The Hollister Police Department is offering a $1,000 reward for information leading to the identification and conviction of the person/s responsible for the use of the illegal fireworks and the damage to the apartments.
This is still an ongoing investigation. Anyone with information regarding this case is asked to contact The Hollister Police Department at 831-636-4330. Persons wishing to remain anonymous may call WeTip at (800) 78-CRIME. Information provided to WeTip may qualify for a $1,000 reward.
