Wilmington Police have arrested a man on gun and drug charges.
Beginning in July, members of the Safe Streets Task Force have been conducting an investigation into 37-year-old Darrell Oliver, for illegal firearm possession and illegal drug sales. On July 12, at approximately 8:05 p.m., officers were in the 400 block of Shearman Street, when they observed Oliver. Officers attempted to make contact with Oliver, who fled on foot and discarded a loaded .45 caliber handgun, and 32 grams of crack cocaine. Following a brief foot pursuit, Oliver was taken into custody without incident, and was found to be in possession of an additional 2 grams of crack cocaine, and .091 grams of heroin.
Oliver has been charged with the following offenses:
- Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony
- Possession of a Firearm or Ammunition by a Person Prohibited – Two Counts
- Carrying a Concealed Deadly Weapon
- Receiving a Stolen Firearm
- Possession of a Controlled Substance with the Intent to Deliver in Tier 3 Quantity
- Possession of a Controlled Substance
- Resisting Arrest
He was arraigned in Justice of the Peace Court 11 and was committed to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution on $57,200 cash-only bail.
