Deputy Jordan Cox charged 30-year-old Shelby Lynn McKinney of Elk Park, NC with two counts of felony Possession of Methamphetamine and Possession of a Controlled Substance on a Jail Premises. McKinney received no bond because she was out on bond for unrelated charges.
On July 15th, Deputy Cox stopped a car driven by McKinney for an expired tag. A passenger in the car was arrested on outstanding arrest warrants. A search of the car with the help of officers from the Marion Police Department turned up methamphetamine and an unidentified substance that will be sent to the state crime lab for testing.
While being booked into the McDowell County Detention Center, detention officers located additional methamphetamine concealed on McKinney’s person.
