HHK Happenings- Curb Painting, NO KNOCK, Tree Removal Permits for all and money matters...

Ho-Ho-Kus Happenings-

We have received a number of calls regarding the painting of your address on the curb in front of your home.  Please note this is not a municipal requirement, and if you choose to undertake this service, it is entirely 100% optional.

If you wish to sign up for the Boroughs Offical NO KNOCK list and not be solicited in the future by anyone, please go to our website or use the attached form and return it to the Borough Clerk.

The State of New Jersey has mandated under the DEP Storm Water Management regulations that each municipality enact ordinances for the protection of trees as part of an overall Storm Water Management plan. Trees play an essential role in stormwater runoff and soil erosion, and therefore additional regulations for their protection are now required.
What this means to you- any tree on your property now requires a permit from the Borough before it can be removed. This NO FEE PERMIT application is available online and can be emailed to our Arborist. It will be reviewed by the Borough Arborist to record the tree and determine based on the size it’s “tree equivalence”. You are permitted to remove six “tree equivalences” in a given year and 10 “tree equivalences” in a five-year period without having to replant or pay any fees. Of course, we always encourage replanting when possible.

Also, the tree removal company you are using must be registered with the Borough so they are also aware of these requirements that application, permit sticker and their registration fee is paid to the Borough Clerk. The contractor will need to come to our Borough Hall and get that. This ensures you are dealing with an approved contractor with proper insurance.
