Flash Flood Warning until 03:30AM Sunday

FFWGSP The National Weather Service in Greenville-Spartanburg has extended the

* Flash Flood Warning for... Gaston County in the piedmont of North Carolina... West Central Mecklenburg County in the piedmont of North Carolina...

* Until 330 AM EDT.

* At 108 AM EDT, Local law enforcement reported ongoing flash flooding from thunderstorms that produced heavy rain across the warned area. Between 4 and 7 inches of rain have fallen, primarily in a swath from Gastonia to Mount Holly where numerous roads have been flooded. Additional showers continue to move across the area with rainfall rates of 0.5 to 1 inch in 1 hour. Additional rainfall amounts of 0.2 to 0.5 inches are possible in the warned area. Catawba Creek at East Hudson Boulevard is cresting just above 12 feet while the South Fork Catawba River at Lowell continues to rise. Roads will remain flooded across the warned area for the next several hours before flood waters gradually recede. HAZARD...Flash flooding caused by thunderstorms. SOURCE...Law enforcement reported. IMPACT...Flash flooding of small creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses as well as other poor drainage and low-lying areas.

Gastonia, Huntersville, Central Charlotte, Southwest Charlotte, Northeast Charlotte, Northwest Charlotte, Kings Mountain, Mt Holly, Belmont, Bessemer City, South Gastonia, Dallas, Stanley, Cramerton, Lowell, Ranlo, Mcadenville, Paw Creek, Charlotte Douglas Airport and Lake Wylie.

* AFFECTED AREAS: GASTON, NC ... MECKLENBURG, NC

Instructions:

Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles. Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the dangers of flooding. Be aware of your surroundings and do not drive on flooded roads.
